So... What's Next For Snacks?

Welcome! So, here's the story. A little while back, I applied for a 'food blogger' position which, unfortunately, I didn't get. To put together my application, however, I had to submit three samples of writing. Long story short, in the process of drafting a couple of restaurant reviews, it turned out I enjoyed writing about food even more than I expected to and, voila, here we are: "What's Next for Snacks?"

What I hope this little site will be is a collection of Toronto-centric musings on things culinary. Right now, I intend that to mainly be 'reviews' (or something) of restaurants and bars and links to stories about things I think will be of interest to Toronto food buffs. At first, I wouldn't expect particularly frequent posting as I'll continue to concentrate on my other blog and, hell, maybe even my dissertation. But I will try and keep it relatively regular (once a week, maybe?) and not, like so many blogs, fade away after the first few excited posts.

Feel free to comment and/or contribute. In fact, if you want to be a contributor - write reviews or longer think pieces etc. - let me know. Posterous (the blog service this site runs on) is ridiculously easy to use, so if you've wanted to write something about food for ages, now's your chance.

Oh, if you're wondering about the name: like so many little phrases in my life, 'what's next for snacks?' comes from chatting with my brother, who is a veritable fountain of word-nerdery. We tend to use it particularly around Christmas when, in a 2- or 3-week stretch of embarrassing gluttony, we gorge ourselves on an array of rich, snack-size food, particularly the family favourite "cheese and crackers". Whenever the urge strikes to eat the next indulgent thing, one of us will simply ask the other: "so, what's next for snacks?" - and for us, the phrase has come to signify that sense of gustatory pursuit. What I hope is that, like my family's Christmas feasting, this blog will also be informed by that same decadent quest for tasty food, interesting, unique beer and delicious (and affordable!) wine.

I hope you like it!
